WORDS FROM OUR MEMBERS

U Khin Maung Maw - Department of Fisheries (Director General)

"I would like to express my sincere thanks to ACIAR for the creation of FRDN as a modality to improve research and development capacity in Myanmar. FRDN is very important to understand the term fisheries as not being only relevant to capturing and growing fish but recognizing the contribution of the sector in terms of food and nutrition security, job creation, income generation from the household to the national level. This improved understanding may lead to proper and effective policies while improving the livelihoods of the resources users."

Dr. Thet Thet Lwin -  Monywa University (Lecturer and Researcher)

"Through the FRDN we initiated a collaboration with Mandalay University, Monywa and Yinmarbin Districts Department of Fisheries to carry out a participatory research  with leaseholders and local fishermen aiming at assessing the diversity of the fish resources and their importance for communities living along the Chindwin river. The study not only resulted in the formulation of key recommendations for better management of the resources but it contributed to critically build the capacity of the many researchers involved in the project."
