A multisectoral collaborative research platform

The Fisheries Research and Development Network (FRDN) is a collaborative platform aiming to strengthen the research and development capacity in Myanmar's fishery sector. The FRDN is intended for research to network and share knowledge about the fisheries sector. Additionally, it offers mini-research grants to researchers belonging to the network.

What we research?
How we operate?

The FRDN has the ambition to support the characterization of the fisheries sector in Myanmar and encompasses as many research foci as there are knowledge gaps. To date, the geographic focus has been on the Ayeyarwady Delta (AD) and Central Dry Zone (CDZ) regions of Myanmar. The research projects have covered various thematics of the fisheries sector including livelihood, aquaculture, value chain and biodiversity.

The FRDN is managed by one national and two regional committees - one for the AD and one for the CDZ - all composed of two representatives from each of the constituting organizations. The committees are responsible for organizing research proposal calls, selecting beneficiaries, monitoring research activities and maximizing the dissemination of research findings. Eligibility is restricted to any member of the FRDN. You can join us now!

The future of FRDN
Why we collaborate?

We believe that collaboration is capacity building and partnerships promote innovative strategies. By sharing this open-ended network to a diverse group of stakeholders, the FRDN hopes to collectively explore strategies that will support the research and development of Myanmar's fishery sector.

The FRDN has the ambition to support the characterization of the fisheries sector in Myanmar and encompasses as many research foci as there are knowledge gaps. To date, the FRDN supported 22  research projects. The geographic focus has been on the Ayeyarwady Delta (AD) and Central Dry Zone (CDZ) regions of Myanmar, covering various thematics of the fisheries sector including livelihood, aquaculture, value chain and biodiversity. The reports of these projects are available through the Fisheries Information Center.

Initiated as a collaboration modality under the ACIAR-funded MYFish project, the FRDN now aims becoming an open-ended network and extend to new research and geographical areas. The present website is purposedly designed to share about the existence of the network, initiate a consultative  process and explore together how to coordinate and strenghten fisheries research in Myanmar. If you are interested in contributing to the FRDN, please join our database by filling the short profile template.
